10 Steps in Creating an Outstanding Online Resume

Your resume is your best marketing tool in your search for a desired job. If a job is worth applying for, it is worth applying as well.

A good resume should focus on your future goals and career aspirations as much as your past career history.

Read the job profile or advertisement and then show why you are the closest match for the job - don't just shoot off a ready-made resume.

Use point form, bullet points and bold headings and sub-headings for quick read.

If you don't meet the requirements, wait for a suitable job opening. Aimless applications can frustrate the job seeker as much as recruiters.

Tabulate key sections of your resume, for e.g., example working history, qualifications and courses attended.

Prepare a personalised cover letter for each application, again don't do a run-of-the-mill approach.

Update your resume twice a year and proof-read it to ensure there are no errors.

Your resume should highlight your strengths, achievements and competencies.

Summarise your career goals and inspirations at the top of your resume.
